Syracuse opened its season with a convincing 104-84 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles. Kyra Wood led the Orange with 19 points on 9-for-12 shooting, but went just 1-for-5 on free throws. Still, it was a strong start for the Orange’s star forward. Georgia Woolley was right behind her with 18 points, going 3-for-5 from outside the arc.
With 104 points, the Orange set a new highest scoring mark during third-year coach Felisha Legette-Jack’s tenure. It was also the most points the Orange scored since a 116-65 win against Central Connecticut State on Dec. 5, 2021.
Now the Orange will clash with Saint Joseph’s, who opened their season with a 70-63 win over Navy on November 4. The last time these teams met in 2013 resulted in a 64-62 win for the Orange.
